The story was clearly well researched and the author`s characters succeeded in bringing it to life but sloppy editing did her a disservice. (An earthquake is a jishin not a dishin, and the child`s name should have been spelt Hideki and not Hidecki). Details are important to an author for credibility. Important to readers also.

Much to my dismay, my 11-year old son does NOT love reading at all. However, he reads the I Survived books from cover-to-cover as soon as I buy them for him. He tells me all about the stories and the history that he learned in the books. I can't ask for much more for an otherwise reluctant reader!
