This book is a good place to start planning a road-trip type vacation if you are looking for ideas of what to do or where to go. With "99 themed itineraries across America" included, the book covers trips of various lengths and durations, from the cross-country NYC to San Francisco Lincoln Highway, down to the more local 48 hours in Miami trip. Follow Route 66, the Pacific Coast highway or the Mississippi, or maybe hit Disney World and Florida's Space Coast. Aside from the variety of trips in terms of location and length, the guide also categorizes them into the following themes: Route, Food and Wine, Outdoors, History and Culture, Offbeat, and City. The table of contents and index of the guide also break out the different trips according to geographic region (cross-country, New England, The South etc) as well as theme (Routes, Food & Drink, Cities etc) and season (spring, summer etc). This organization also helps cross-reference the different trips so if you are interested in exploring a new city, food and wine, in the south and in the fall; then you may end up planning around the "48 Hours in new Orleans" (City, South) as the starting point of your "Cajun Country Roadtrip" (Food & Wine, Fall, starting in New Orleans).
The only real caveat I have with this guide is that, like others that pack so much information into one book, it gives up depth in favor of breadth and in doing so suffers for some accuracy and misses a few gems along the way.
