This is generally a good survey of major sights in Western Europe. It will be useful for outlining a whirlwind tour or for more general organization of a longer multi-country trip. The advice is not quite as sharp or detailed as Rick Steve's guides. My only significant complaint, which others have noted about LP books is that they have been very poorly adapted to Kindle format. There is no quick way of getting to TOC and moving among sections is difficult. If you are reading it cover-to-cover this is no problem, but for a travel guides the portability of electronic format demands quick access to specific sections. They can do a lot better.

The Good: I love the Lonely Planet guides, they relate to the way I like to travel; things to see, highlights and must-sees in each place, food ideas and places to eat.
It has entry fees if there are any, it also mentions a lot of things to see that don't cost anything.
It has a brief background and history of each place and sights. It has great recommendations to all transport, some of which was great for our driving holiday, and mentioned the car parking options around the main cities rather than driving in them.
The guide is in alphabetical order of countries; then at the start of each country chapter is an alphabetical list of the cities they comment on; you can skip to each country chapter with the forward/backward buttons on your kindle.

The Bad/Improvements that could be made; A detailed index would be great - being able to skip to particular pages without having to bookmark it all would be great.
The mapping is hard to enlarge and see on the kindle format.

Kindle version vs book - you can't skip and flick through the guide quickly to get to a certain page/topic. But is very travel friendly with it's weight and size
