Exploring Havasupai: A Guide to the Heart of the Grand Canyon Description
Deep in the Grand Canyon lies a place of unmatched beauty; a place where blue-green water cascades over fern-clad cliffs into travertine pools, where great blue heron skim canyon streams, and where giant cottonwoods and graceful willows thrive in the shade of majestic sandstone cliffs. Havasupai is a paradise enveloped in one of the earth's most rugged and parched landscapes. The Havasupai Tribe has never advertised its canyon and has never endorsed a guidebook to prepare visitors for a journey into the Heart of the Grand Canyon until now. Exploring Havasupai is the essential destination guide for those visiting the area. The guidebook is filled with insider tips, fascinating background, and essential information. It identifies many new hikes, mines, springs and historical sites never before revealed in a Grand Canyon or Havasupai guidebook. Details on canyon geology, weather patterns, and the unique flora and fauna add depth to a hiker's experience. Exploring Havasupai includes detailed maps, trail descriptions, stunning full-color photographs, and intriguing historical insights. This is the must-have guide for canyon visitors, whether arriving by helicopter, on horseback, or on foot.

Purchased this for a planned hike to Havasupai in the fall. This book is a great reference that includes great photo's, history lessons, photo tips, maps, and details on hiking the trail. Makes a great reference book but is nice enough to keep out for friends to thumb through. I recommend this book for anyone planning to make the trek to Havasupai or are just interest in a uniquely remote and beautiful place that is relatively off the beaten path.

I have been to Havasupai. I wish I had read this book before going, but since I plan to return to that marvelous place again this work is still of GREAT value to me. One big disappointment however, is the lack of topographic maps. There are numerous trail maps among the pages, but they are practically useless. I find myself relying upon the written descriptions of the trails and trailheads instead. Worth the price, but the author could charge twice as much if he included more photos and topographic maps.
Revising a few months later: changing from 3 star to 5 star. I keep enjoying this book, rereading it. I had marked it a 3 star because I was so disappointed at the obvious fault of not including topographic maps. However, the content and the photos are so good it really deserves better. Since 4.5 isn't possible in the Amazon system, I'll round up to 5 stars.
